Sheep and wool industry scholarship winners want to make a difference

TWO young people with a keen interest in the sheep and wool industry have been honoured with scholarships.
The Peter Westblade Scholarship recognises the late Peter Westblade of Lockhart who was know for his successful Merino breeding operation.
Mr Westblade was also considered a fighter for the rural industry in regards to agripolicial issues such as Ovine Johnes Disease.
Josh Molloy, “Ellwood”, Yerong Creek and Emily Anderson of “Lower Sylvia Vale” Binda are the recipients of the scholarship this year.
“It is a privilege just to be selected as a finalist,” said Miss Anderson who is assistant manager on the family farm.
“I just want to network and have the industry skills and experience needed,” she said.
Meanwhile, Mr Molloy said he was interested in learning more about genetics and the integral role they play in the sheep and wool industry.
“I want to see what technology is available for the industry and how we (as producers) can get better,” he said.
Mr Molloy works on the Yerong Creek property and said he was looking forward to furthering his skills and knowledge of the industry.

The winners were chosen from 24 applicants from NSW, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania by a panel of industry judges.
Now entering its fifth year, the scholarship provides cash and in-kind support worth up to $10,000 over a 12-month period.
